What is a swap?

A swap (or overnight fee) is a fee or interest adjustment applied when a position is kept open overnight.

It depends on:

  • The instrument (Forex pair, index, commodity, etc.)
  • The direction of the position (buy or sell)
  • The difference in interest rates between currencies (for Forex)
  • The position size and leverage

Swap values can:

  • Vary over time
  • Differ between long and short positions
  • Be multiplied on certain days (e.g., triple swap to cover weekends)

How is the swap calculated?

While the exact formula may vary, the principle remains:

  • Start with the position size
  • Apply the swap rate (interest rate differential)
  • Consider the direction (buy/sell)
  • Multiply by the number of days the position remains open

What are the conditions of Islamic accounts?

Since our swaps are not correlated with interest rates, all our accounts comply with Muslim religious practices and are suitable for all beliefs and convictions. Fixed per-lot commissions are simply applied to cover position-holding costs.

Where can you find information about swaps?

You can find all the information related to swaps directly in MetaTrader 5:

  • 1. Open the “Market Watch” window.
  • 2. Right-click on the asset you’re interested in, then select “Specifications.”
  • 3. Scroll down the window and you will see several important lines:
  • Swap long: the fee or gain when you hold a buy position overnight.
  • Swap short: the fee or gain when you hold a sell position overnight.
  • Swap table: this table shows how often swaps are applied for each day of the week.
